Prisoners of the Ghostland (2021) - Quick MO

Sep. 15th, 2021

This movie is absolutely insane and I love it.

I went into this completely blind, only seeing the poster beforehand, and it was 100x better for doing so, and I highly implore you to do the same if possible!

What a good year to be a Nicolas Cage fan. Not only were we blessed with Willy’s Wonderland (2021) and Pig (2021), but now we get this absolutely gorgeous art piece by the madman that gave us Suicide Club (2001), Sion Sono. If you enjoy Nic Cage movies at all or find him even remotely entertaining to watch, this movie is more than likely right up your alley. Everything about this is just as bonkers as the Nic we've grown to love. Sofia Boutella brings some fantastic energy to this film as well, I loved her in The Mummy (2017), even though that movie wasn't very well received at all, I enjoyed it. And every scene is just absoulety gorgeous and pleasing to watch.

Nic's character has to wear this Gantz-like suit, and I'm not sure whether it was Nic's or Sion's idea to put glowing testicles on the suit, but I love it.

Especially when he just rides off on the bicycle.

I have no idea what it is with Ratman and his pack, but they remind me of the flying monkeys from The Wizard of Oz (1939), the way they run.

The only downside that crossed my mind while watching this was that I wished the movie paid attention to whether Nic's suit was actually locked because the lock around his neck didn't always appear to be locked.

And if that was the only downside that ran through my mind, I'd say the film was pretty successful in my eyes. I'm going to enjoy rewatching this.

I'll just leave you off with my absolute favorite summary of this movie, Victoria's review:

My Media Opinion (MO) for this film is 09/10.
